Michael has been practicing law for more than 21 years, and has more than 15 years of experience in a university setting advising board members, senior administrators, and faculty members on a broad array of legal issues, including complex contracts, research and technology transfer, and intellectual property issues.

Michael joined the Office of General Counsel in 2011. His practice focuses on business transactions and contracts, governance, research, technology transfer, copyright and other forms of intellectual property, and advising on federal and state regulatory matters. Prior to coming to UNCG, Michael served the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for ten years as Associate Counsel, advising the MIT board, administrators and faculty on legal issues relating to intellectual property, sponsored research, technology licensing, procurement, and technology-related matters. Prior to joining MIT, he practiced in Boston as senior legal advisor for MyCounsel.com, and as legal counsel for Quinlan Publishing.

Michael graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, where he was Note and Comment Editor for the Buffalo Law Review, and the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Michael is an active member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the Association of University Technology Managers, the North Carolina Bar Association, the Greensboro Bar Association, the 10th Judicial District Bar, and the Wake County Bar Association.
